Eulogies Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the production, adding that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate placed a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
Following the deaths, public individuals expressed varying comments.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing controversial remarks that were broadly criticized by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the critics last week. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an aide should have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
