Alarming Footage Captures Moment Law Enforcement Are Stabbed in Ambush
One ranking policeman who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a weapon to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a traffic accident in the area in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashcam video made public by the agency showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who tripped and dropped to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, concluding the confrontation to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell received two lacerations to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.
The department said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his partner's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
The new award comes after the trio of policemen received departmental Courage Honors in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area union branch in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The actions of each policeman eventually protected one another and meant no civilians experienced any wounds."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, per the department.
